enriching the creative and cultural life of young Australians.

Why?

It all started when…

….. we realised that despite Australia’ s relative wealth in the world, it doesn’t reach everyone, especially some of our children and young people.

Many children and young people in Australia have limited opportunities to regularly experience the awe and wonder of great arts and cultural experiences in the places they live.

This makes it much more difficult for them to flourish as resilient adults that make their way well in the world, to contribute positively to their local communities and Australian society.

We know that rich arts and cultural experiences help young people to develop a healthy sense of themselves and their place in the world. It enables them to express themselves in creative and healthy ways, improves learning, grows confidence and self-esteem, as well as enhances personal interactions for better friendships and relationships - it even helps them to get better jobs.

Participating, attending and connecting to local cultural stories.

Playing music, participating in making and creating art provides a constructive way for young people to process and express their feelings, especially traumatic, complex and ambiguous emotions. Quality arts and music tuition is part of everyday family life for many young Australian’s - but for some it’s unattainable and we want to help change that.

Regular attendance at concerts, performances, events and exhibitions enables young people to make sense of the rich and complex human condition and our place in the world - even some of humanity’s most difficult stories can be understood gently through the arts.

Becoming familiar with local cultural stories, through connection to nature, local food production, public art and historical artefacts, helps young people develop a sense of belonging, connection, ownership and responsibility for their place.

We believe that all young Australians need a rich creative and cultural life to thrive.

Kindred Australia is a registered charity.
